Some Results of Shaping Flat-Topped Element Patterns in Planar Arrays of Helical Radiators

Finite planar phased array antennas with helical antenna radiators are proposed, designed, and investigated. The design of helical antenna with low return losses is presented. Electromagnetic simulation including optimization of geometric parameters of the array element with the purpose of shaping flat-topped radiation patterns is carried out. Some results obtained for arrays consisting of seven and nineteen elements arranged in a triangular lattice are presented and discussed. The influence of array edges on the shape of the element pattern is also studied.
