Balanced Incremental Active Protocol Stack Handover for 5G mmWave Ultra Dense Networks

Seamless real-time connectivity and reliable maintenance of high data rates are requirements for 5G and 6G systems. Many studies have proposed methods to increase the handover (HO) success rate while attempting to minimize the mobility interruption time (MIT). In this letter, a network balanced incremental active protocol stack (NBIAPS) scheme is proposed to maintain network balance while improving the HO success rate by optimizing the number of assist gNodeBs (AgNBs) and the handover control parameters (HCPs). The performance evaluation shows that the NBIAPS scheme can provide a higher HO success rate as well as a lower MIT and outage probability compared to the other algorithms.
