Electrical Simulation Systems for Task Specific tremor Suppression : Current Status and Future Directions

Tremor is defined by involuntary movements causing part of the body to oscillate. According to the most widely recognized definition, it is "an involuntary, roughly rhythmic, and roughly sinusoidal movement." [1]. The most common movement problem that impairs a patient's the capacity to carry out everyday tasks and engage in physical activities is tremors, which eventually lowers the patient's quality of life. The pathophysiology of tremor makes it difficult to create effective pharmacotherapies, which are only partially successful in managing tremor. Deep brain stimulation is one type of surgical procedure that can effectively decrease tremors over time. However, their use is limited because of their high costs,. In order to deliver safe and efficient tremor suppression, medical devices are the better options to fill the gap between pharmacotherapies and surgical treatments. We examine the operational modes, safety and effectiveness features, and clinical applications of various methods and techniques that are on the market or have been studied in the past for the suppression of Task specific tremorusing Electrical simulation techniques.
