EMC Standards — Moving Forwards

In 1998, I presented a paper entitled ‘CISPR Standards, Present and Future,’ which described changes I predicted would occur in the area of EMC standardisation. In the intervening four year, these predictions have come to fruition and I believe that EMC standardisation is now in a much-improved situation. However, with advances in technology there is a continuing need for standards to evolve to meet new challenges if we are to continue to ensure that radio services are afforded protection. This paper describes recent developments in the international standards arena, and outlines what additional issues need addressing if EMC Standards are to remain to be effective and relevant for the future, and how the Radiocommunications Agency is rising to that challenge.
