The Design of a UWB Omnidirectional Dipole Antenna using Impedance Loading Applied in Borehole Logging Radar

Ultra-wideband (UWB) antennas play a crucial role in exploring underground resources, acting as an important tool in borehole logging radar. The UWB omnidirectional dipole antenna excited by impulses is highly suitable for detecting subsurface structures for its time-varying characteristics. However, low-frequency current reflections always appear near two ends of the arms, severely impacting the borehole radar's performance. We utilized the method of impedance loading to mitigate that effect, which can realize the antenna's UWB specifications to achieve underground oil exploration. The simulated results demonstrate the feasibility of adopting impedance loading to UWB dipole antennas applied in oil explorations, as an effective approach to remarkably improving their subterranean detection performances.
