A Dual-Polarized Broadband Log-Periodic Antenna Design for UAV Applications

An eight-port dual-polarized broadband log-periodic antenna design for UAV applications is proposed in this paper. The antenna consists of eight log-periodic antenna elements. To achieve dual linear polarizations and omni-direction radiations, the four horizontally polarized antennas are arranged in a symmetric structure on a horizontal substrate. Another four vertically polarized antennas are inserted through slots on the horizontal substrate. The results show that the antenna achieves a -10 dB impedance bandwidth from 2 GHz to 18GH, with a maximum gain of 7.8 dBi. The antenna can be potentially used for drone-to-drone communication.
