Power-Efficient Asynchronous FIFO Architecture for Forest Surveillance Systems

This paper presents the first approach to designing a power-aware asynchronous first-in first-out (FIFO) specifically tailored for next-generation forest surveillance systems, offering a novel solution to enhance power efficiency in remote monitoring applications. An asynchronous FIFO design is redesigned with an efficient technique to reduce its power consumption known as power gating. The primary factor contributing to increased leakage power is the supply voltage, which introduces leakage current and consequently escalates power consumption. Power gating scheme is a boon in taking care of this static power. An asynchronous FIFO is engineered to manage data transfer between two different clock periods, and the initiation of a power-saving approach is an extra advantage to the whole circuit. The proposed concept is termed as an alert sleeper - that wakes up in the sense of read/write data and accomplishes a reduction in leakage power by more than 30%.
