Efficient Metasurface Antenna Design for Compact 5G Wireless Applications

This paper presents designing and optimizing a highly efficient metasurface antenna (MSA) for compact 5G wireless applications. Using the unique features of metasurfaces (MS), artificial structures made of subwavelength elements can manipulate electromagnetic waves. A two-layer 4×4 order MS is added to elevate the concept even higher and achieve a significant gain increase of 9.7 dBi. The proposed design maximizes efficiency while minimizing size, addressing key challenges in 5G antenna development. The overall 4×4 MS antenna showcases an impressive maximum efficiency of 84% at the aforementioned frequency. The results provide valuable insights into the future development of MSAs, making them a critical component in the advancement of next-generation 5G communication systems.
