Compact Four-Port Monopole MIMO Antenna Loaded with CSRR for Multiband Applications

This work presents a single-port and four-port compact monopole multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna loaded with a complementary split ring resonator (CSRR). A single element made up of a single-port monopole microstrip with a CSRR and partial ground ring on an FR4 epoxy substrate. MIMO to form a four-port monopole microstrip with CSRR on epoxy FR4 substrate and partial ground ring. The elements with CSRR are placed orthogonal to each other to reduce mutual coupling and increase isolation. The designed antenna operates from 2.2 GHz to 4.6 GHz. It has an array of 4*4 MIMO antennas with an overall size of 45mm*45mm*1.6mm. The simulated S-parameter (reflection and transmission coefficient) has been achieved for a given band of frequencies. MIMO configuration having isolation > 10 dB among the ports with gain >2 dB and covers WLAN/WiFi (2.4GHz-2.48GHz), Bluetooth(2.4GHz-2.48GHz), WiMAX(2.3GHz-2.7GHz), ISM(2.4GHz-2.48GHz), LTE(2.3GHz-2.7GHz),and 5G application (3.3GHz -3.6GHz). The diversity performance matrices are envelope correlation coefficient (ECC<0.01), diversity gain (DG >9.95dB), Mean effective gain (MEG-1), and total active reflection coefficient (TARC <-10dB) have been simulated. The performance of the antenna in terms of S-parameters, and radiation pattern are satisfactory. MIMO covers to various applications such as WLAN, WiMAX, WiFi, ISM band, Bluetooth, LTE-A, and 5G communication.
