Design of Remotely Computer-Controlled Integrated Spectrum Observation Centres

The Canadian administration is developing an Integrated Spectrum Observation Centre (ISOC) system of computer-controlled stations located at remote sites to monitor the radio frequency spectrum from 10 KHz to 1800 MHz. This system has a star network configuration allowing a central site to control a number of unattended remote monitoring sites. The computer architecture is based on the OS/2 operating system using LAN/WAN networks and permits multi-user and multisite control of the remote instrumentation. The ISOC system is used for real-time spectrum analysis and technical parameter measurement in support of Canadian spectrum management. This network will be integrated with a distributed data base to provide efficient processing of collected data to meet both operational and planning needs.
