The Changing World of Radio Communications Spectrom and Future Radio

The future of many new telecommunication services depends on availability of frequency spectrum. Suitable bands are largely already in use. New strategies and techniques are needed for more intensive shared use of the spectrum resource. A World Administrative Radio Conference will be held in 1992 to deal with frequency allocations in certain parts of the spectrum. Re-allocation in the frequency range 1 to 3 GHz will be considered to provide spectrum for mobile-satellite and other mobile services, satellite HDTV and possibly satellite sound broadcasting, and possible extension of bands for HF broadcasting will be considered. An ITU Group of Experts will also in the near future study possible new frequency allocation methods and radio regulations, to allow more possibilities for services and frequency sharing.
