Concept of an Electromagnetic Pulse Laboratory

The concept of an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Threat Laboratory equipped with various system for EMP susceptibility testing is presented. The methods used in this study can be divided into two major classes: field simulation and injection. In the injection method, a pulse generator is connected directly to the input terminals of the object under test. The pulse generator simulates EMP-induced currents and voltages that will be picked up by a feeder, cable or circuit. In the field simulation method, the pulse generator is connected to an EMP simulator. The electromagnetic environment produced should be as close as possible to the actual threat.
