A 24.3-43.7 GHz Variable-Gain Low-Noise Amplifier with Phase Self-Compensation

This paper presents a variable-gain low-noise amplifier (VG-LNA) with a gain bandwidth of 24.3-43.7 GHz in 28-nm CMOS technology. A co-design methodology for the first two stages of LNA and the high-order matching network are applied to implement the input matching and low noise figure (NF) in a broadband. The gate-inductive gain-peaking technique is adopted to optimize the gain flatness in high frequency. The proposed phase self-compensation technique without introducing extra devices helps reduce the phase error and realize lower insertion loss. The proposed VG-LNA achieves a stimulated peak gain of 16.4 dB and NF of 3.59-4.38 dB across 24.3 to 43.7 GHz with RMS gain error of less than 0.45 dB and RMS phase error of less than 3.9°.
