Analysis and Discrimination of Transformer Inrush Current and Fault Current

This paper presents a comparative study of transformer inrush current and fault current. As the transformer is one of the key component in power system network so stability, security and protection of the transformer is most challenging in present scenario. The discrimination of the inrush current and fault current is very much important for proper functioning of the protection schemes including differential protection. An experimental set-up of 1kVA step up transformer have been used to analysis the inrush current and fault current in research and development laboratory of NEO TELE-TRONIX PVT. LTD. (NTPL) at Kolkata. One MATLAB simulation model with same physical parameter of transformer is also used to verify the experimental results. The analysis also shows the comparison between the real-life experimental data and MATLAB simulation data with considering different events.
