Design and Control of Semi-Active Suspension for A Novel Corner Drive System

A brand new concept of “Corner Drive System, CDS” has been proposed by this conference paper, that is, a single-wheel module integrating wheel hub motor, wire control brake, wire control steering and semi-active suspension (SASS), which can realize its “plug and play” function on the skateboard chassis. As an important link between the body and the road, the suspension system's configuration optimization design and control strategy are very critical. First, the configuration design is carried out. This paper conducts topological configuration design and optimization of the hard point coordinates of key components of SASS based on the kinematic principle and the quadratic optimization principle to complete its configuration design. Secondly, the control policy is designed. According to the principle of model predictive control (MPC), the paper came up with the control strategy to study the method of real-time control of the CDC vehicle damper to output the optimal damping force, so as to achieve the optimal control of the vertical vibration of SASS, thereby the driving smoothness of the vehicle receives significant ameliorate. Finally, the control strategy simulation verification is carried out. Based on a variety of typical driving conditions, the dynamic analysis of the SASS equipped with the MPC control strategy is carried out. The results reveal the consequence of uncontrolled and PID controlled groups, the MPC control strategy designed in this paper significantly improves the vertical vibration index of SASS.
