A Secure Software Development Methodology for Enterprise Business Applications

Modern organizations invest millions of dollars in enterprise softwares to increase their operational productivity and thus generate huge amounts of corporate data to support these applications. In an era of escalating cyber threats and increasing complexity of business applications, the security of such applications, their data and risks management is warranted and hence the secure enterprise architecture has become paramount. This paper presents a novel software engineering methodology for developing and maintaining secure enterprise architectures for business applications. This study introduces the Continuous Adaptive Secure Enterprise (CASE) framework, which integrates security considerations throughout the software development life cycle while promoting adaptability to emerging threats. The CASE framework is built upon three core principles: Security-First Design, Adaptive Risk Management, and Collaborative Security Culture. This study further elaborates architectural principles derived from these core concepts and illustrates their application through real-world industry examples. The approach aims to bridge the gap between theoretical security models and practical implementation challenges faced by modern enterprises. Finally, this study presents quantitative metrics from three case studies demonstrating the effectiveness of the CASE framework in reducing security incidents and improving compliance efficiency.
