Fuzzy Modelling and Grey Relation Analysis of Electric Discharge Machining Performed on Inconel 718 Superalloy

In this research work, electric discharge machining has been performed on Inconel 718, a nickel based super alloy. The effects of input parameters have been investigated on machining characteristics of the materials. In this experiment, input parameters have been selected as pulse current, pulse on time and duty cycle. The effects of these three input parameters have been analyzed on material removal rate (MRR) and surface roughness. Three levels of input parameters have been finalized to conduct the experiments. L9 orthogonal array has been prepared using Taguchi method to develop the design of experiments. The experimental result has been used to formulate mamdani based fuzzy logic where membership functions have been selected as triangular function. The mean absolute percentage error of the model has been computed which are 4.84% and 4.52% for MRR and surface roughness. Grey relation analysis have been performed on the experimental result to find out the optimal solution. The optimized value of MRR and surface roughness are 11.312 mm³/min ad 10.04 μm respectively.
