A Scalable Real-Time Monitoring System for East-West PV Systems Leveraging the Internet of Things

The increasing adoption of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems necessitates effective monitoring solutions, particularly for east-west oriented arrays experiencing uneven sunlight exposure throughout the day. This paper addresses this challenge by proposing an Internet of Things (IoT) architecture for remote data acquisition and performance evaluation. The architecture integrates low-cost current and voltage sensors with the open-source MQTT protocol for efficient wireless data transmission. Leveraging the Node-RED platform for data visualization and analysis, this approach empowers remote monitoring, comprehensive performance evaluation, and ultimately leads to improved efficiency, reliability, and maintainability of east-west oriented solar PV systems.
