Simulation of EMC Perturbations for Soft Starters using Hardware-in-the-Loop in the Verification and Validation Phase

This study introduces a cutting-edge technique for simulating electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) perturbations in soft starters, leveraging the capabilities of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) during the Verification and Validation phase. As electrical systems become more complex and the demand for thorough test protocols grows, conventional testing approaches often fall short. HIL simulation offers a reliable solution by achieving results similar to real tests, merging with methods like Model-in-theLoop (MIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), and Processor-in-theLoop (PIL) simulations. Our contribution lies in the adoption of HIL simulations to study EMC disturbances in soft starters, where our analysis demonstrates a congruence between the simulation results and actual real-world data, demonstrating the precision of the HIL method. This investigation highlights HIL’s crucial importance in developing testing methodologies, especially in the sphere of Model-Based Design (MBD). By focusing on the application of HIL in EMC perturbations, this paper fills a gap in the current literature and offers practical insights for practitioners in the field of motor control.
