A Novel IPv6 Address Generation Method for IoT Network

With the help of the Internet of Things (IoT), a vast network of billions or perhaps trillions of connected objects with the ability of self-awareness and self-configuration will be formed. These devices will communicate data with each another. Standard protocols, energy-efficient and secure wireless communication, and the assignment of distinct identities such as IPv6 addresses are all required in this diverse Internet of Things network. Sustaining device geolocation and unique identification in such a network is a major challenge for location-aware applications to function properly. In order to tackle this issue, the study presents Time-Location Based IPv6 Addressing (TLB-IPv6), a stateless spatio-temporal addressing scheme. The idea behind this strategy is that two objects cannot be in the same location at the same time. The target IPv6 address is created using the device’s time and location data, and it is subsequently allocated to the device after being confirmed to be unique via the Duplicate Address Detection (DAD) protocol. In addition to maintaining temporal and spatial information, TLB-IPV6 ensures a distinct identity for big networks. Analytical proofs show that TLB-IPV6 consistently generates unique identities, provided there are no technological constraints. An assessment of TLB-IPV6’s effectiveness in allocating distinct IPv6 addresses is evaluated on measures like Communication-Overhead and Assignment-Success-Rate (ASR). Experimental results indicate that TLB-IPV6 achieves a high ASR with reduced Communication Overhead in the network.
