Imperceptible Screen-Camera Communication Based on Inter-Frame Difference and Noise Modeling

Rapid and convenient connection between digital devices is a hot topic. A practical solution is to exploit screens to transmit and cameras to receive, where high confidentiality can be achieved. In this work, we investigate an imperceptible screen-camera communication over metres, where “imperceptible” implies that the signals are transmitted without detectable features imposed on the images. We designed weights on red, green and blue channels to ensure reliability and imperceptibility. We also fully considered the manifestations of different types of noise in results of inter-frame difference and analyzed their causes and characteristics. By modeling the channel and the noise, we obtain the theoretically optimal scheme for the receiver to ensure the best error rate performance. Through experiments of photographing under different conditions, the reliability and accuracy of the novel method are validated.
