Design and experimental research of an underwater respiratory monitoring device

This study introduces an innovative underwater respiratory monitoring device that uses circular microphone array technology to capture subtle acoustic signals generated by divers’ respiration underwater in real-time, thereby enhancing the safety of diving operations. The device employs a multi-microphone collaborative approach combined with sophisticated signal processing algorithms to conduct multi-stage signal processing. These algorithms include preliminary filtering to reduce environmental noise interference, signal envelope extraction to obtain clear respiratory signals, and peak detection to achieve an accurate evaluation of respiratory frequency. This paper provides a detailed description of the design and implementation of the hardware system, including the unique selection and configuration of the microphone array, as well as the development of the signal processing module. To evaluate the performance of the device, we conducted experiments in various environments, including on land, in shallow water, and in deep water. The results demonstrate that the device exhibits high sensitivity and stability in detecting various respiratory states, such as static respiration, dynamic respiration, and apnea. Through its unique hardware design and innovative signal processing methods, this study offers a novel solution for enhancing diving safety monitoring.
