Design and Analysis of A Plastic Optical Fiber Network for Automobile Braking System

Polymeric optical fiber (POF) is a flexible and transparent plastic fiber used in various applications, including for a sensing system in automobile brake systems. This research study proposed the design and analysis of a plastic optical fiber network for automobile brake systems. The method is to utilize the light emitted from the vehicle’s backlight, which is then captured by the brake system detector. The design employs an optical communication system because of its advantageous features, such as high-speed data transmission and communication reliability. The power budget of the link is analyzed through theoretical calculations and simulations. The proposed system can achieve a Q factor of 8.29 and a power margin of 11.26 dB. This condition indicates that the proposed design can function properly in terms of data transmission and sufficient transmitted power.
