Design and Implementation of AHB Protocol-based 16/32 Bit Random Access Memory

AMBA AHB (Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture - Advanced High-Performance Bus) protocol is implemented on Verilog in this paper to optimize data transfers from the microcontroller. While AHB protocol is now offering multiple masters, burst transfers, and even the capability of high-throughput data handling, which makes it efficient for the processor, memory, and peripherals concerning on-chip communication, it faces challenges like arbitration complexity, power efficiency, and ensuring error-free data transfer in high-performance applications. In order to address these challenges, the study explores a simplified AHB-Lite variant optimized for low-power and high-performance requirements. Verification techniques and tools such as Questasim (Advanced verification tool from Mentor Graphics) and Xilinx ISE allow error-free data transfer and arbitration and examine a simplified AHB-Lite variant for low-power, high-performance applications. The research demonstrates AHB to be a good tool to enhance system throughput and reliability, which classifies it well within the scope of modern embedded and memory-intensive systems.
