IoT Smart Driving Protocol for Unmanned Ground Vehicles: A Comparative Study

UGVs are an emerging force of change in autonomous systems, ranging from logistics and agriculture to military applications. So far, there have been a wide number of applications of UGVs for military, civilian, and civil use. However, UGVs are also for use in both civilians and military servicemen. The paper aims to critically present a comparative review of the different protocols of IoT-based smart driving, including V2X, ITS, and DSRC, and intend to identify certain strengths and limitations of the same with respect to operations involving UGVs. In this regard, it proposes a new protocol design to contribute toward enhancing communication efficiency and reliability by reducing latency in real-time decision-making capabilities in various types of operational environments.
