Experimental Study of Angle Type Shear Connector in Steel Beam with Deck Slab

As is known in the various international codes, there is no expression for calculating the shear-resistant capacity of angle-type connectors that can be used in steel and concrete composite beams. Based on this and their potential use in building construction in Ecuador due to their low cost, a study is being conducted at the Housing Research Center of the National Polytechnic School in Quito, Ecuador, with the objective of obtaining an expression for this calculation. The research presented here aims to analyze the shear resistance of 4 mm thick angle profiles welded vertically in two different positions: at 45 degrees and at 90 degrees. Ten specimens were prepared, with five containing connectors for each orientation, utilizing concrete with a compressive strength of 31 MPa obtained from laboratory tests. The specimens underwent push-out tests, yielding load-slip data that were then subjected to statistical analysis. The analysis included parameters such as resistance, ductility, energy dissipation, and failure modes. It was concluded that the predominant failure mode in all specimens was the fractionation of concrete above the crest of the deck and across its entire width. Regarding ductility, both positions exhibited similar behavior, while those positioned at 90 degrees demonstrated greater resistance compared to those at 45 degrees.
