Extended Phasor Analysis Approach and Control Strategy for Flexible Multiway Power Flow and Wide ZVS Operation in the Multiport Wireless Power Router

This article proposes a multiport wireless power router (MWPR) and its control strategy which is capable of processing multiway bidirectional power flow and can be potentially applied in multiport power processing applications, such as battery management and interfacing systems. The MWPR connects multiple sources and loads through vertically stacked coils, providing several potential power channels regardless of which ports are connected to the system. This significantly enhances the system’s flexibility and enables it to perform various functions. Key contributions of this article include: 1) an equivalent-port model for simplifying the analysis of multiple power flow and zero voltage switching (ZVS) conditions; 2) an extended phasor analysis approach for intuitively revealing the interaction between power flow, ZVS operation, and control variables; and 3) a multiobjective control strategy for flexible power flow modulation and wide range ZVS operation. To validate the proposed modeling, analysis, and control strategy, a 250 kHz four-port MWPR prototype is built and tested. Experimental results indicate that flexible multiway power flow modulation and ZVS operation are achieved over a wide power range and under different port voltages.
