A Highly Linear and Efficient GaN RF Power Amplifier for Telemetry Applications in S-Band

This paper introduces a highly linear and efficient RF power amplifier (PA) for telemetry systems. The proposed in-phase parallel power amplifier is designed based on a developed algorithm to determine the optimum gate biases to provide high linearity with the best achievable efficiency. The measured saturated output power (Psat) is 44.9 dBm with power-added efficiency (PAE) of more than 61% and the 1-dB compression point is achieved at 44.4 dBm output power. The measured results showed good linearity with IM3 less than −46 dBc for the output power back-off (OBO) of 6 dB and 10 dB OBO. Furthermore, The adjacent channel power ratio (ACPR) is − 27 dBc at an average output power of 42.3 dBm and an average power added efficiency of 53.5 %. The proposed design achieved competitive results compared to other published works.
