Current Status of Medium-Term and Long-Term Wind Power Forecasting in the Literature

Wind energy integration into the existing energy generation systems is an important issue. Wind energy is variable and intermittent over various time scales as it depends on weather conditions. Therefore, wind power forecasting is critical for load tracking, pre-dispatching, maintenance scheduling and energy trading. In order to perform these tasks, numerous wind power forecasting studies have been conducted in the literature. In this paper, the current status of medium-term and long-term wind power forecasting is reviewed considering different criteria. Many guiding results have been achieved from the literature. Particularly, it is noteworthy that novel hybrid forecasting models have been created by combining the strengths of individual forecasting models in the current literature.
