Architecture and Design Requirements of an IoT-Based Medical Vital System

Health diagnostic and medical treatment practices often must employ various types of medical instruments as well as laboratory chemical tests. Each procedure often takes a long time and involves a considerable cost. By the time the physician gets the relevant set of reports, many valuable life-saving time have elapsed. Also doctors with various specialties and experiences may not necessarily arrive at an accurate and consistent judgment, though consultation with a group of doctors may help. An IoT-based medical vital system with advanced intelligent sensors on human body symptom and machine learning data analysis software will be able to greatly mitigate (if not completely solve) this problem. This paper discusses the architecture and design requirements of such a system and its component parts with emphases on the required intelligent information processing functionalities for remote health diagnosis and treatment decision. A case study based on the discussed IoT architecture is also presented as applicable to the Chinese medicine principles.
