Enhancing the Performance of C-RAN-Aided New Power Systems by Cooperative Relays

In this paper, we investigate the use of cloud-radio access network (C-RAN) architecture to enhance the transmission rate in a new power system. Recognizing that certain users, particularly those located far from the access points (APs), may experience degraded performance, we propose a cooperative relay strategy to mitigate this issue. Specifically, a subset of users is selected to act as relays, facilitating joint transmission of data symbols by both the APs and the relays, thereby improving the performance of users with poor signal conditions. Within this framework, we derive a closed-form expression for the achievable rate in the C -RAN-aided new power system by utilizing the use-and-then-forget bounding technique. We further evaluate the downlink rate performance under various system configurations. The analytical results are corroborated through extensive simulations, which demonstrate the significant rate enhancements achievable through the incorporation of cooperative relays.
