Throughput analysis of IoT enabled intra vehicular wireless network

The increasing number of sensors and electronic systems in modern vehicles has led to the need for efficient intra-vehicular communication networks. Integrating the Internet of Things (IoT) concept with Intra-Vehicular Wireless Network Sensors (IVWNSs) presents an opportunity to create smart and connected vehicle systems. This paper provides a comprehensive performance investigation of IoT-enabled IVWNSs to address the challenge of latency, throughput and scalability. The study begins with an overview of IoT-IVWNSs, highlighting the advantages of integrating IoT with intra-vehicular networks, such as enhanced vehicle security, safety, and convenience. A comparative analysis of existing technologies, including UWB, RFID, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and ZigBee, is conducted to identify the most suitable options for IoT-IVWNSs. The research then delves into the link design between end devices and the control unit, analyzing the performance of the network in terms of packet transmission delay under varying traffic loads and increasing numbers of end devices. We investigate the effect of log-normal shadowing on received power and throughput using analysis of the communication link between end devices and the central unit, therefore stressing the relevance of the path-loss exponent in signal attenuation and the inverse relationship between throughput and distance. It is observed that the delay increases to 123.5ms or 0.1235 seconds for distant users with high traffic loads. Also, the average throughput decreases with the increase in distance. At transmit power Pt of -20dBm, the average throughput of 12.5 kbps is obtained at a distance r of 4m. Our results highlight the need for efficient traffic management methods since they show that higher traffic loads and bigger network sizes produce more packet transmission delays.
