Phase Effects in Terahertz Pulsed Imaging

Terahertz pulsed imaging is unlike other medical imaging modalities where generally only one image is recorded. This technique can produce a set of images each at a different frequency in the terahertz pulse. This study investigates the frequency dependent boundary artefacts generated within these sets of images. The hypothesis is tested on five teeth slices. Two methods of image analysis are used, measurements were taken to determine the frequencies at which the first two minima, resulting from destructive interference, occurred. The relationship between these two frequencies was plotted and the results illustrated a good agreement with the proposed theory.
