EMI Radiation from Shielded Signal Cable inside a Subrack

This paper presents the analysis of EMI radiation (far-field) from a shielded cable installed inside a PCB sub-rack. The simulation analysis includes two main parts, the EMI leakage penetrating through a cable shield and the 3D full wave simulation of EMI radiation of the cable inside the subrack. FDTD method has been employed to perform the simulation analysis. The thin wire model implemented with the FDTD code is evaluated for the application to model the signal cables. Moreover, the simulated results have been validated through the comparison to measurement. The results show that the simulation method is applicable for EMC design of telecom products associated with EMI radiation from shielded cable assemblies.
