Wired Communication Networks and EMC: An Overview

Numerous developments are taking place in the field of wired and wireless network products. The EMC aspects of wired networks in particular may differ significantly from the EMC aspects of typical electrical or electronic products. This paper reviews the developments with respect to wired networks and their EMC consequences. We describe key EMC issues and the developments concerning legislation and standardisation. We also list some organisations dealing with the EMC of wired networks. Finally, this introductory paper summarises the papers presented in this session in relation to the aspects discussed here.
