Evaluation of MPI Suppression by Bending a Short PMF Cable Attached to an ELS Module

We investigate the generation of MPI and its suppression by bending a pigtail fiber cable attached to an ELS module. Experiments are implemented for 1.0-m and 0.3-m PMFs considered to a length range in an actual usage. MPI is strongly generated when the PMF is straightened. When applying bending conditions in an actual usage, an MPI value is reduced as low as <-40 dB. As a result, it is concluded that MPI can be sufficiently suppressed for pigtailed-ELS modules.
