Energy Storage Capacity Allocation for Power Systems with Large-Scale Grid-Connected Wind and Photovoltaic Power

Under the background of “dual-carbon” strategy, China is actively constructing a new type of power system mainly based on renewable energy, and large-scale energy storage power capacity allocation is an important part of it. This paper analyzes the differences between the power balance process of conventional and renewable power grids, and proposes a power balance-based energy storage capacity allocation algorithm to calculate the energy storage capacity required for grids with different renewable energy penetration rates under the premise of ensuring the safe and stable operation of the power grid as the first priority. The rationality of the proposed algorithm is verified by analyzing the modified IEEE 9-node grid arithmetic example. The results show that the installed capacity of pumped hydro storage stations configured from the perspective of grid security is more reasonable and can ensure the demand of electricity consumption of users in the case of grid-connected large-scale wind and photovoltaic power.
