Design and Development of a Smart Billing Meter for Load Management and Tampering Alerts

The main goal of this study is to present and assess the effectiveness of the proposed smart billing meter, evaluate its role in optimizing energy consumption, and validate its capabilities in load control, real-time data presentation, and tampering detection. This paper introduces a smart billing meter designed for efficient energy management. The proposed model incorporates essential sensors, an Arduino microcontroller with a real-time clock (RTC), and a vibration sensor for tampering detection. Integrating GSM technology ensures seamless communication between Arduino, consumers, and authorities. Simulation results showcase the robustness of the design, simulating load control during peak hours, real-time data display, and tampering alert mechanisms. The hardware implementation demonstrates effective load management, real-time data presentation, and secure communication. Safety measures, including validation checks and tampering alerts, underscore the system's commitment to consumer protection. The proposed smart billing meter is compared with existing studies to evaluate the novelty of this work which indicates this work is instrumental in optimizing energy consumption, providing real-time insights, and fortifying consumer safety.
