Radio-Frequency Attenuating Connectors - Applications of Inductive Coupling

Improvement in safety standards in respect of electrically initiated explosive devices, particularly in aircraft and missile systems, has become an increasing problem relative to the RF and NEMC environment. However, by the use of the inductive coupling it is practicable to introduce a new order of safety from RF and electrostatic hazards, both in the installed and hand-held situation, together with many other advantages relating to reliability and performance criteria. This paper considers the problems and conventional approach, then describes methods by which the increasingly stringent requirements can be met. It suggests some civil applications for the technique and includes illustrations of practical devices already achieved or under development.
