Advanced MATLAB Algorithm to Reduce the Impact of EVs on the Distribution Network

In recent years, there has been a significant and exponential increase in the demand for electric vehicles (EVs), which has consequently heightened the necessity for charging stations. The current market accommodates both fast and standard charging modalities. Fast charging units are designated for installation at specialized charging stations, whereas standard charging is predominantly conducted at workplaces and residential locations. Charging activities typically reach their peak during the hours when EVs return home after work and during midday when vehicles are connected at office facilities. To adequately support the charging needs of these EVs, the local power grid must possess the capacity to deliver the requisite energy during charging periods. The energy demand, influenced by the time of day and the number of connected EVs, may impose significant stress on the existing grid infrastructure. To mitigate the impact on the power grid, the implementation of a well-structured energy management system is imperative. This paper proposes a smart charging algorithm designed to optimize power distribution systems associated with the EV charging infrastructure. Employing MATLAB and Simulink engineering software, the study examines the effects of EVs on the current grid and illustrates the advancements facilitated by the proposed algorithm. A case study involving various EV models will be conducted within a public building to assess the algorithm's effectiveness. The findings highlight the benefits of adopting the proposed solution.
