Miniaturization and Bandwidth Enhancement of UWB MIMO Antenna for Wireless Applications

This paper proposes a novel, miniaturized Ultra-wideband Multiple Input Multiple Output (UWB MIMO) antenna design with increased bandwidth for wireless applications. The proposed antenna comprises four elliptical-shaped monopole patch antennas inspired by the traditional Minangkabau house architecture, along with a ground plane incorporating L-shaped strips to minimize inter-element mutual coupling. Comprehensive simulations are employed to investigate the antenna's impedance matching characteristics, inter-element isolation, radiation pattern, envelope correlation coefficient, diversity gain, realized gain and total active reflection coefficient. The results demonstrate that the proposed antenna exhibits an operational bandwidth from 2.2 GHz to 20.6 GHz, with a low mutual coupling level below -20 dB, an envelope correlation coefficient < 0.02, a total active reflection coefficient (TARC) < 10 dB, and a gain of 3.5 dBi. These favorable performance metrics indicate the suitability of the proposed antenna for various wireless applications.
