Transmitting Efficiency Monotonicity of Multi-LED Optical Wireless Power Transfer Systems

This research presents a theoretical analysis for the transmitting efficiency in the air of optical wireless power transfer (OWPT) systems with transmitters consisting of a light emitting diode (LED) array. Analytical and explicit conditions are derived to characterize the monotonic dependence of the transmitting efficiency on the relative distances between the solar cell optical receiver and the LED array transmitter. As such, the receiver locations to obtain more wirelessly transmitted power can be determined. The usefulness of the derived theoretical formulas is then validated with numerical simulations and experimental results conducted in the laboratory.
