Modeling Dual Saturation Effects and Torque Suppressed Self-Commissioning for Synchronous Reluctance Motor

Currently, two critical problems hinder the development of control models for dual saturation effects in synchronous reluctance motors (SynRMs): the slow computing speed of analytical models and imperfect parameter identification methods. To address these issues, this work presents two main contributions. Firstly, a simplified analytical model that avoids intricate fundamental functions while ensuring adherence to the reciprocity condition is proposed, thus maintaining efficiency and accuracy. Compared to existing models, the proposed analytical model reduces computation time by over 70% in DSP controller applications. Secondly, to enhance the SynRM performance during standstill self-commissioning, a novel hybrid current excitation method is introduced. This method achieves evenly distributed flux linkage sampling across the full current range without the need for additional equipment. By integrating the smooth variation of trapezoidal current with the low-energy injection characteristics of the hybrid sinusoidal current, it decreases the torque fluctuation and reduces the duration of large torque application. This results in decreased rotor movement during the self-commissioning process and leads to more accurate parameter identification than other techniques. Experimental validation on a 5.5 kW SynRM prototype demonstrates the reliability and feasibility of both the analytical model and the identification approach.
