Batery Energy Storage System (BESS) Siting

In planning for resource adequacy, utility regulators work with transmission and distribution providers to ensure that enough electricity meets demand in all but the most extreme conditions. This involves complex modeling based on assumptions about conditions in future decades that are increasingly hard to predict and that can significantly affect electricity supply and demand. BESS provides an array of services (i.e., applications) to different parts of the power system that other ESS technology cannot necessarily provide. Storage assets can provide adaptable solutions to maximize the value of existing transmission and distribution investments, while providing the flexibility to complement and augment distributed resources and new technologies.
