Advances in BAW Technology Enabling 5G NR and WiFi6E

Recently introduced frequency bands for 5G, WiFi6E and UWB in upper mid-band frequency region have a wide fractional bandwidth and allocate the spectrum up to 8 GHz. Furthermore, more complex Carrier Aggregation and higher RF output power at the antenna need to be supported now. To enable according RF front ends (RFFEs), filters with smaller form factors, wider bandwidths, higher power handling capabilities, improved insertion loss (IL) and rejection values are required. In this work, most recent developments in bulk acoustic wave (BAW) technology and design approaches allowing such filters will be reviewed.
