Intentional Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) - Test Data and Implications

Intentional Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) is defined as the intentional malicious generation of electromagnetic energy to introduce noise or high level disturbances into electrical or electronic systems with the intention to disrupt, confuse, or damage these systems for criminal or terrorist reasons. Over the past two years new activities have begun to better understand this threat and to develop methods to protect systems from this threat. This paper reviews several recent experimental studies that provide insight to the nature of the problem. It concludes with a brief overview of the papers that follow in this session entitled, "Adverse effects of high power EM."
