Shielding Effectiveness of Gaskets: The Influence of Mechanical Design Parameters

In order to maintain a good conductive contact between different parts of a shielding box, and to maintain a good shielding value, conductive gaskets are used. This paper will focus on several mechanical design parameters influencing the shielding effectiveness of the resulting combination of shielding enclosure and applied gasket. For this case, it is understood that a good mating of materials is done, so that galvanic corrosion will not be discussed in this paper. It is shown that all parameters are not equally influencing the shielding effectiveness of the gasket/enclosure combination under different EM conditions: differences are noted for plane wave (far field) and magnetic near field conditions.
