Wide-Band Total Radiated Power Measurements of Electronic Equipment in TEM and GTEM Cells

This paper proposes an improvement to radiation measurements in TEM cells proposed by CISPR A and D in order to determine the total power radiated by electronic equipment. Based on previous theoretical work, the first part of this paper demonstrates that the individual voltages measured at each port of a TEM cell or on the single port of a GTEM cell respectively for three or six orientations of the equipment under test are sufficient to determine its total radiated power. The second part of this paper considers a practical industrial case where the wide-band total radiated power of an electronic equipment is measured in both TEM and GTEM cells. Finally, to highlight the repeatability and reproducibility of this method, a statistical analysis on 8 series of measurements combining different operators, different facilities and arbitrary initial orientations is presented.
