Optimizing Latin to Balinese Script Transliteration: Hybrid Jaro Winkler and Damerau Levenshtein Methods

Lontar is one of the Balinese cultural heritages that contains various knowledge, and Lontar has been used since the Hindu-Buddhist era, using Balinese Kawi as the primary language. Now, the use of Lontar has begun to decrease, and the impact is that many discoveries of Lontar collections have suffered damage ranging from physical damage to content damage. To preserve cultural heritage, this research develops a transliteration system that applies two-word processing methods: Jaro-Winkler Distance and Damerau Levensthein. The Jaro-Winkler method is used as a homonym detector in the database, and the Damerau Levensthein method is used to detect the use of people and place names in the inputted text. The first test that only uses the J aro- Winkler method gets a result of 92.7%, and in testing, by combining the Jaro-Winkler method with Damerau Levensthein, it gets a higher result of 93.9%.
