Usage and Added Value of IO-Link Platform in the Context of Industry 4.0

The paper analyses and practically verifies the principles of Industry 4.0 through an IoT approach based explicitly on IO-Link technology. The focus is on the definition of appropriate data and the determination of the communication topology. By creating an initial knowledge base, we document the implementation of advanced monitoring, the ability to make future predictions about the state and condition of individual connected devices, and the automated workplace. Our experiments, setup, and data collection demonstrate the effectiveness of implementing the presented approach in other typo-logically similar workplaces. Thus, from the results obtained and their comprehensive evaluation of the collected data, we documented not only the applicability of our solution but also the transfer of knowledge to other industrial areas.
